Program:
Open to students of all majors, this immersive, interprofessional course invites participants to explore the history and culture of Montego Bay, Jamaica, while examining the social determinants of health that impact its communities. Through a series of interactive preparatory sessions in the Fall semester, students will gain foundational knowledge of the Jamaican healthcare system and the common health issues faced across the lifespan. These sessions will lay the groundwork for meaningful cross-cultural engagement and critical reflection on health equity and global wellness.
The experience culminates in a 10-day Winter Break trip to Montego Bay, where students will collaborate with local partners in clinics, schools, orphanages, and care centers. Through hands-on service, community-based activities, and guided site visits, students will deepen their understanding of health disparities, develop cultural humility, and build professional skills in a global context. This unique opportunity blends academic learning with real-world impact—equipping students to become more informed, compassionate, and civically engaged professionals.
