Program:
Embark on a life-changing journey through Community and Global Health in the Philippines, Rutgers’ first-ever Learning Abroad program in the archipelago. This transformative experience integrates rigorous academic inquiry with immersive cultural and community engagement,
centering on the core theme of Filipino women’s health.
Over two dynamic weeks, students will explore vibrant cities and rural islands—from Manila to Ilo-Ilo and Guimaras—engaging directly
with healthcare institutions, grassroots organizers, and women-led cooperatives. Through site visits to the University of the Philippines College of Nursing, Philippine General Hospital, and Fabella Maternity Hospital (the world’s busiest maternity hospital), students will deepen their understanding of health disparities and the lived experiences of Filipino women and families. This multidimensional course offers an unforgettable fusion of cultural humility, service learning, and professional growth—rooted in heritage, healing, and human connection.
