The Program
Globalization in Action in Switzerland explores multiple aspects of globalization through an interdisciplinary lens. Investigating the expression of cultural globalization through the vector of sport, students will visit the FIFA Museum in Zurich and the Olympic Museum (recipient of the European Museum of the Year Award) in Lausanne. In Geneva, the focus shifts to the political dimension of globalization with a guided visit of the European Headquarters of the United Nations. Additionally, students will develop a deeper understanding of Swiss direct democracy through readings that reveal the intricacies of the country’s unique cantonal system. The class will tour the national parliament building in the capital city of Bern, to witness Swiss politics firsthand. The site of the 1924 Winter Olympics, students will experience the majesty and historical importance of Chamonix, France and Europe’s highest peak: Mont Blanc. This course allows students to gain a more profound understanding and experience of globalization in action in one of the most significant countries for modern global culture and politics.
