The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) has extended the guidance originally issued in March 2020 for the 2021-2022 academic year. Notably, this guidance enables schools and students to engage in distance learning in excess of regulatory limits due to the continuing public health concerns created by COVID-19. Please see the DHS announcement and Broadcast Message here.
We continue to encourage both students and U.S. higher education institutions to maintain maximum flexibility in navigating the coming academic year, which includes accepting offers of admission and negotiating academic program start dates to accommodate variability in student arrivals on campus or facilitating international students starting their studies online if unable to travel to the U.S.
If you have questions about these two updates, please contact the appropriate authorities for Consular Affairs or the Department of Homeland Security indicated on the websites reference above.
