As of April 26, 2021, the U.S. government has established additional National Interest Exceptions (NIEs) for Regional COVID Proclamations on student visas for applicants from Brazil, China, Iran, and South Africa similar to existing NIEs for Schengen countries, the UK and Ireland. Please see the announcement from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs here.

Embassies and consulates worldwide are aware of these changes, and we are urging them to encourage students in their countries to accept offers of admissions to U.S. institutions for the fall and apply for their visas to be able to study in the U.S. as health and safety conditions allow. Please note that Consular Sections in NIE countries may still be operating at limited capacity given local conditions, staffing levels, and health/safety regulations.
